English Program

Choose English language option

If you choose the English language option you will receive 15 hours per week of English language lessons. The lessons are provided at the school by International House Manchester's qualified tutors. On arrival, all English language students receive an individual Needs Analysis interview, so the school knows exactly what each student needs. This interview also allows the school to assess the student's specific strengths and weaknesses when speaking and listening. We'll also take a sample of each student's writing and ask them to complete a grammar/vocabulary exam, so we can prepare clear, personalised learning goals for each student.

manchester england city center school

After finishing the needs analysis, students are assigned to a class which corresponds to their CEFR level in English. We introduce new students to their teachers and classmates, and we check after the first class and throughout the week that everything is going well. Students also have a face-to-face individual tutorial every two weeks with their teacher. The Principal and Director of Studies are also available to talk to outside of class. We will advise students on which exam is best for them e.g. IELTS / Cambridge PET, FCE or CAE

English Lessons, Teaching & Learning

General English classes provide tuition in:

  1. Grammar
  2. Vocabulary
  3. Listening
  4. Speaking
  5. Reading
  6. Pronunciation
  7. Writing

International House Manchester is committed to helping students communicate effectively using natural English.

Our Teaching and learning policy

In classrooms at EduKick Manchester, teachers will:

  1. Use the target language only, systematically building on what students already know. We’ll use and teach natural language based on the needs of the students in the class.
  2. Present language in clear contexts and situations supported with real life and relevant examples. We believe that learning English means being able to use it when you need it. We want students to understand English grammar, but more importantly we want students to be able to use it. However, we won’t only work on grammar. Natural vocabulary and pronunciation will be equally important parts of your lessons.
  3. Support students to work out meanings and use of the target language themselves and give students lots of opportunities to practise language in structured, purposeful activities which reflect their English language needs. Feedback on performance will be provided at appropriate stages of the lesson in a friendly, helpful way to improve accuracy while developing fluency. Fluency activities will be personalised, where possible, to the learners. Teachers will plan their lessons so there are lots of chances for the students to communicate in English.
  4. Give students language skills training in reading, writing, listening and speaking, so that they are able to both consolidate classroom learning more effectively and become more independent language learners.
  5. Add variety to their lessons, making them motivating for the students.
  6. Be open to the opinions of the students. As well as having one-to-one tutorials every two weeks, in which the students and teachers will work together to assess learning and objectives, students should feel comfortable coming to the teacher at appropriate times with problems or concerns.
  7. Set homework to consolidate teaching and learning that has taken place during each lesson.
  8. Encourage students to take notes and organise materials, making sure all students have a record of their work.
  9. Be sensitive to personalities, personal motivations, cultural differences, job requirements, exam goals and individual needs in planning, teaching and all dealings with students.

at International House Manchester, students are expected to:

  1. Work in pairs, groups, and as a class to practise recently taught language in a variety of practice activities.
  2. Use the target language only.
  3. Consolidate and build upon what has been taught in class through completing homework tasks set.
  4. Be sensitive to other students’ personalities, cultural differences and individual needs in the class.

Football Training

In Manchester, England!

manchester england tactical football coaching

Tactical Football Coaching

Team play and tactics are an important part of the game. Being part of the EduKick Manchester Academy means being part of the EduKick Manchester team and competing weekly in competitive fixtures. Our coaches will work on tactical elements of the English game. The players will begine to develop their tactical awareness; including shape, movement, set plays, defending and attacking as a team. These elements of training will be worked on both on the pitch, where players will receive lectures on the English game, what to expect, the laws of the game and both basic and complex tactics. Throughout the season the EduKick Manchester team will film as many fixtures and training sessions as possible for post-match analysis. This is a great opportunity for players to reflect on and discuss their performance and identify exactly where they need to improve.

Technical Football Coaching

Simple repetitive drills will be introduced to ensure that players can master the basic skills of the game. These sessions will continue over the season to ensure steady improvement. Many players continue with training drills in order to maintain their level of skill. David Beckham famously practised free kicks alone after training each day. Adopting good habits in your training is key. Players are also encouraged to understand the importance of warming up and cooling down and are expected to quickly take personal responsibility for their warm up.

Self-guided learning was introduced in the 2014/2015 season and is valuable to every player's individual technical development. These comprise of short periods of time at the beginning or end of each session where all players are asked to choose an area of their game that they wish to work on. The choice is based around the skill targets set in tutorials and coaching sessions. During this time players are given the time to work at their own pace and the coaches are on hand to assist and advise if neededp>

manchester england technical football coaching
manchester england football stamina endurance and fitness

Football Stamina, Endurance & Fitness Coaching

EduKick Manchester coaches will conduct fitness sessions. These sessions will include speed, agility and quickness sessions, core stability, endurance and football fitness. The English game is a physically demanding game, not only with endurance and overall fitness, but players can experience tough physical challenges on and off the ball. Upper body strength and core strength can be key to a successful player.

Individual Tutorials

Each player will meet with a senior staff member twice per term. This will provide the perfect opportunity to obtain specific and individual feedback to ensure the welfare, safety and satisfaction off all EduKick Manchester students. This procedure will ensure a happy stay and continued improvement in all aspects of the course. These meetings will also provide our course leaders the opportunity to set the students personal targets and provide feedback to parents.

Towards the end of the course these sessions will also provide the perfect opportunity by which to assist each individual player to progress from the course and advice on the best career opportunities available to them.

manchester england individual football training
manchester england football matches

Competitive Games

All players will be involved in the competitive fixture programme. Throughout the season EduKick Manchester plays regular fixtures against a variety of different opponents. This offers a range of levels and challenges, along with opportunities for the players. The games are normally against UK college or University teams. However, we also often play some of the local academy teams and semi pro clubs. These games give the players the opportunity to put into practice what they have been working on in training. The games can also provide focus for training. Furthermore, the games give the players the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of professional club scouts and coaches.

These games are filmed and retained for the season. All the players are encouraged to take copies of these games for their own use and analysis. Many clubs will ask to see video footage of a player and so this footage proves to be a great tool for players trying to obtain trials.

NEW for the 2015/2016 season will be the sportscam filming, where the majority of the fixtures will be filmed, from an elevated angle, giving a much better overview of the team and individual performance.
