e-Learning DevCon 2006 Announces Student eLearning Design and Development Competition

(PRWEB) April 21, 2006 -- For competition guidelines and detailed information, see: http://www.elearndevcon.com/student_contest.htm

“  We really need to differentiate between the two levels
This is the second year in a row the competition has been held, and Garin Hess, the conference’s executive director, says the first year was a success.

“I used to teach in a university instructional technology program. So we initially organized the competition for students at that university where I was teaching,” says Hess. “It really pushed students to stretch their instructional design and technical development skills to the limit, and the winning entry was an excellent piece of e-learning from both standpoints.”

This year conference organizers are opening the competition to any higher education

that has an instructional technology program. Students can win expense-paid trips to eLearning DevCon 2006, as well as e-learning development software valued at hundreds of dollars.

Students can submit entries in either the graduate or undergraduate category.

“We really need to differentiate between the two levels,” says Hess. “Since undergraduate programs are usually less intensive, we expect each category to produce different kinds of entries.”

While there are many other e-learning industry conferences, e-Learning DevCon offers a “total value” approach unique to the industry. The conference focuses on the needs of e-learning developers, offering an in-depth look at the most relevant development tools, techniques, and training methods available today.

Training Media Review found in an independent survey of attendees, “The conference received very high marks on all the questions we asked participants. Several themes emerged from responses to both the closed and open-ended questions. The conference delivers on its claims to enhance e-learning development skills, keeps the focus on building knowledge and skills, not pushing commercial agendas, provides excellent networking opportunities for participants, and provides great value for the cost.”

Rapid Intake is continuing its unique approach to organizing e-Learning DevCon by holding the conference on a college campus, this year in Salt Lake City, Utah. This year’s conference will be held in a more central location, the site that boasts the Olympic Village, home to the 2002 Winter Olympians. Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the campus is beautiful and isolated enough to allow concentrated learning while still being easily accessible to nearby city life. Attendees are offered award-winning food at the campus cafeteria and have the option of staying in air-conditioned dorm rooms or nearby hotels, one of which is located on the campus itself.

“We’ve always been very value conscious -- wanting to present a conference filled with more meat and less fluff for a reasonable price. Even though this year will see many upgrades on the venue side of the conference, the registration fee has increased only slightly,” says Steven Hancock, assistant director. “Even with all the changes, you can still be admitted to e-Learning DevCon, have lodging, and all of your food for significantly less than the registration fee charged by most other conferences.”

For e-Learning DevCon 2006, standard conference registration fees are $799, including meals. However, Rapid Intake offers discounts for early registrants, up to $100 for those registering before April 30.
