Vancouver is a city located in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is the third largest city in Canada, with about 600,000 people in the city itself and about 2.2 million people in its greater metropolitan area. Vancouver is considered to be one of the metropolitan centers of Canada.

For those who love sports, consider visiting the city and getting a hotel reservation in Vancouver. Vancouver has a strong sporting tradition.  team. Until quite recently, the city hosted an NBA team, the Vancouver Grizzlies, until that team moved to Memphis. The city will be the host city for the 2010 Winter Olympics. As might be expected, this event will draw thousands ofpeople, so if you want to experience the Olympics, be sure to get your Vancouver hotel reservations early.

Vancouver has a reputation as a a tolerant city when it comes to social experimentation. Alternative lifestyle experiements are not unusual here. Even drug policies are constantly under revision and review. For instance, while marijuana is technically illegal in Vancouver, police generally do not arrest people who ?carry? in small amounts. There have been some city proposals for supervised drug injection sites ? which would amount to a legalization of prohibited drugs, albeit in a heavily regulated way.

Vancouver is relatively free from racial tensions, and is known for its inter-racial harmony in spite of its large ethnic communities. The city also has a large gay and lesbian community.

Every year, Vancouver hosts the International Folk Music Festival. This festival showcases the best folk music talent in the world and is considered a top tourist attraction. The city is also home to a couple of professional orchestras, the CBC Radio Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. If you love music and the arts, find accommodations near the performance venues of the orchestras, as well as the venues where the music festival is held.

Vancouver has a wide array of parks, the most notable being Stanley Park. The city has about eighteen kilometers of shoreline. Divided into many different parts, the coastline

is a popular destination for boating afficionados and is a potential location for water sports. There are many places to stay along the shoreline and the beaches.

Vancouver is also a haven for skiing enthusiasts, who can enjoy three ski hills: Mount Seymour, Grouse Mountain, and Cypress Bowl. All of these ski hills are within thirty minutes of the city itself. White water rafters (during periods of rain and the melting of spring) have similar opportunities in the Seymour River, the Lynn Creek, and the Capilano River.
