) April 19, 2007 -- The nation's leading credentialing organization for professional medical coders announced today that it has formed the American Academy of Professional Coders Chapter Association, a Utah nonprofit corporation.
“ Local chapters are the lifeblood of the AAPC ”
The new Chapter Association will allow the AAPC to further support its growing local chapters, strengthen member recruitment, and provide financial and organizational support to local chapter leaders.
All AAPC members belong to a local chapter and this nonprofit Chapter Association will become the driving force in the growth of each local entity and AAPC
"Local chapters are the lifeblood of the AAPC," says Reed Pew, president and CEO of the AAPC. "Incorporating all chapters within a nonprofit association will support their mission and continued growth."
AAPC currently has 425 local chapters. "The local chapter officers, who are dedicated volunteers, will now benefit from the support of an umbrella nonprofit organization specifically designed to provide finances, help with educational services and advertise events and meetings," says Pew. "All AAPC members belong to a local chapter and this nonprofit Chapter Association will become the driving force in the growth of each local entity and AAPC," says Pew.
The new nonprofit will be governed by a soon-to-be-announced Board of Directors, led by a new Chairman. This new Board of Directors will work closely with the AAPC's National Advisory Board and AAPC's executive leadership to guide the Chapter Association.
The National Advisory Board is made up of certified members representing clinics, facilities, payers and consulting firms. The Advisory Board supports AAPC and offers direct input into the certification programs, educational curriculum and membership services the AAPC offers.
