“ Most TEFL school platforms are devoid of culture and neglect the local community they eat profits from. ”
When TEFLocal™ opened roughly one year ago, the focus was to bring local immersion, teacher certification, and volunteering to travelers going abroad as we built a solid local community in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Now that community is growing globally thanks to technology and Web 2.0 platforms such as Skype, Wiki, Podcasts, Ajax, Writely, and TEFL mobile™.
One of the founding members, A.R.Thompson, and active podcaster, recalls that in early 2005, TEFL local was designed as a play on words solution with a bigger meaning behind it… to help the local community. "At that time, the TEFL industry was composed of pure-for-profit TEFL franchises, or mills, that consume and expand as fast as economically possible. Most TEFL

platforms are devoid of culture and neglect the local community they eat profits from. These brokers, and aggresive web designers are not stakeholders, they are steak eaters… no donation to local NGOs, no donation to measurable causes, no trainers that volunteer, they are simply businesses. It appears to be English imperialism under the guise of something good, we at TEFLocal feel things should be different."
Traditionally online TEFL programs haven´t used tech savvy software, but marketing gimmicks and simply emailed assignments back and forth for months until you were "done" and received a TEFL certificate with little or no interactivity and or pracitacal value. TEFL 2.0™ technology aims to change that.
Currently the biggest TEFL mills in the world work precisely like this. Type Online TEFL in a search engine or TEFL online and more than likely you will get a few familiar coporations that both work hard at feeding the public disinformation with panacea marketing campaigns.
TEFLocal has received letters of malcontent from two of these English heavyweights whom both ironically had spelling mistakes in their solicitations which we promptly sent to a leading technology university as a case study.

of both of these companies should settle down as soon as TEFL 2.0 opens up, which is inevitable. We expect an open source universe and to cut ESL profits with the benefit being an increased global solidarity and people communicating better. We are opening up channels with some of the biggest podcasters in the world, we recently attended BlackBoard World 2006 in San Diego for BlackBoard Inc. in order to find a smarter system to benefit people in the world of

training. When you are trading languages you are trading culture, and we feel cultural exchange is important too. TEFLocal and
www.Localimmersion.com is built into TEFLocal´s online and onsite architecture, open communication is about making the world a better place for ESL or PAZ (peace)."
Current online TEFL platforms heavily rely on marketing budgets, MS Word, and Hotmail, real interaction is not a concern. TEFLocal is poised to take the road less traveled pioneering their own route in ESL and EFL with a unique message: building an open source community with volunteering and technology platforms like Moodle, something that is so far uniquely TEFLocal´s own in the Maverick world of TEFL and TESOL.
