July 16, 2005 -- Phlebotomy Technician students draw blood as part of their training at Pima Medical Institute, 3350 E. Grant Road, Suite 200, but they were also part of the donating process during the career college’s blood drive July 8th. Students and staff donated 60 pints of blood for The American Red Cross, a non-profit organization responsible for collecting, processing, and distributing blood and blood products to hospitals and their patients throughout Arizona.
“ They truly are professionals in their training, as well as their commitment to help the community they serve. ”
"As future healthcare professionals our students understand how vital blood donations are," said Stan Bodzioney, campus director for the Tucson career college. "They say you shouldn’t ask somebody to do something you wouldn’t do yourself, and these students show they are not afraid of donating their own blood to make sure there isn’t a shortage. They truly are professionals in their training, as well as their commitment to help the community they serve."
Little known facts about blood include: An estimated 85% of us will require blood before the age of 75; one pint of blood can save up to three different people’s lives; the average car accident trauma uses about 50 units of blood and there is no substitute for human blood.
