September 11, 2005 -- Sri Chinmoy honored with doctorate degree in Humanities in Peace Studies by International University.
Born in Shakpura in East Bengal (now Bangladesh) in 1931, Sri Chinmoy Kumar Ghose is a spiritual teacher who is inspiring and serving humanity with his soulful offerings, prayers and meditations, literary, musical and artistic works and his grassroots cultural and athletic programs.

, Youth and Sports Pit Chamnan, the representative of the Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, International University conferred on him the doctorate degree in Humanities in Peace Studies.
After a careful deliberation and examination of documents and films of what Sri Chinmoy has done for humanity for four (4) decades, the Science Council committee of International University headed by Dr. Prof. Sam Sophean unanimously decided to award the degree.
Sri Chinmoy has met several prominent world leaders and sports figures in spreading the message of peace, among these are Nelson Mandela, U Thant, Kofi Annan, Pope John Paul II, Pope Paul VI, Mikhail Gorbachev, Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, Vaclav Havel, Jopez Portillo, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Javier Per de Cuellar, Pablo Casals, Leonard Bernstein, Yehudi Menuhin, Carl Lewis and Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen.
The ceremony was attended by the staff and professors of the university, the Science council committee who decided for the award, Indian Ambassador Aloke Sen, Counsellor W.R. Hendro of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and hundreds of students who filled the hall with love by offering flowers to Sri Chinmoy.
At the ceremony, Sri Chinmoy played an esraj as part of his meditative peace offering for Cambodia then he wrote a poetic message of peace for the university:
