See More Of Australia by 4wd - Retirees Taking to The Road

"Spending the kids inheritance", a trend gaining enormous popularity amongst retirees and particularly in Australia.

 “  Spending the kids inheritance
Rapidly are the days of living out retirement spending as little as possible, whilst saving as much as possible so that the kids can get a decent inheritance.

The open road these days is being invaded by the grey brigade in their thousands, armed with their maps and travel guides, towing modern, and often luxury, caravans with equally modern, new generation, vehicles. Many of these vehicles are four wheel drives and many are diesel powered.

sites, are being increasingly inhabited by the older generation visitors, staying for a week or two, exploring the local countryside and attractions, and then moving on to the next place of interest.

site to find they have either cashed in the family home in one of the big cities, taking advantage of the massive increase in property prices over recent years, and opting to travel and regard their caravan as home.

Many will have bought a lesser priced property out of the city which they can sometimes return to when they need a break form caravanning on the open road.

Another form of funding for this new trend is from superannuation payouts. In the past much of this money would have been rolled over into another form of investment to preserve the nest egg for the kids.

After all is said and done why shouldn't they enjoy the proceeds after having worked the majority of their lives, often with only short holidays once a year if they were lucky.

As far as Australia is concerned there is much to see. People who have been on the road for years and years say that they still haven't seen it all. Certainly those travelling Australia by 4x4 have the opportunity to see and go to places that the majority will never see or go to.

Why? Because much of the Australian beauty is inaccessable to conventional vehicles. There are the Great Australian Desert trips, many following routes taken by early Australian pioneers and explorers, and many other, absolutely outstanding, trips like Cape York, the most beatiful northern most point of Australia. Fraser Island, off Queensland, which is the largest sand island in the world. The Gulf Trip around the bottom of The Gulf of Carpentaria. Parts of The Snowy Mountains - a snow skier's paradise in the winter and a world of natural wonder in the summer months. Parts of places like Kakadu National Park that are off limits to conventional vehicles, to name just a few.

Every state in Australia has some outstanding four wheel drive country and there seems to be a myth that 4wd driving is hard and only for the brave and the tough, and that ordinary people don't go off road even if they do have a four wheel drive vehicle.

Yes it can be tough, if you choose it to be, but there is so much that is really very easy four wheel driving and is only just out of reach of conventional vehicles.
Many of these trips will take you to a multitude of places of great beauty and often stunning scenery. It may be that two wheel drive vehicle just don't have enough ground clearance or that there is a creek or two to cross.

If there is a four wheel drive trip worth doing and you don't want to drive your own vehicle there is almost certainly going to be a 4wd tour operator who would be happy to take you there in their vehicle, most of which are well prepared and equipped for the trip.
