(PRWEB) August 22, 2006 --- Giving back is no stranger to Saints defensive tackle Hollis Thomas. Not long after signing with his new NFL family, Thomas wasted no time to devise a plan that would support inner-city youth in the area. From lending his name to raise money for worthy causes to planning fun-filled events that will educate and empower the city’s youth, Thomas is committed to ‘making a commitment to make a difference’ in the lives of so many who are often forgotten. The first of six already planned events is scheduled to kickoff September 5th, at Bethune Elementary, but the one to watch for is his Team w/The Tank Asthma Promotion, that kicks off at the season opener. An annual initiative where Thomas challenges himself and the community to pledge $100 for every tackle and $250 for every sack he makes, with hopes to raise $10,000 to his self-named organization and its Athlete’s w/Asthma Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund will allow student athletes who suffer from asthma an opportunity to compete for scholarships to a 2-year or 4-year college or university.
Scheduled Events are as follows:
:: September 5th, RapidReader’s Club Program Kickoff (Bethune Elementary)
:: September 25th, Team w/The Tank Asthma Promotion (Season Opener)
:: September 26th, Athlete’s w/Asthma Scholarship Fund Kickoff (O. Perry Walker High School

About Hollis Thomas
From ’96 to now, defensive tackle Hollis Thomas has gone from the unheralded player who stepped on the turf from a small Division 1-A program to the player who prides himself on his determination to be a leader on and off the field, hence founding the Hollis Thomas Foundation. Since the organization’s inception in 2001, Thomas has exuded such characteristics by tirelessly contributing to programs and events that support the personal and social development of inner city youth ages 7-17, in Houston, Texas, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his native St. Louis, Missouri and most recently the City of New Orleans.
