. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Gold Triangle Awards.

“  Our skin cancer programs are unique.
“This is absolutely incredible news,” says Margaret Merrill, who serves on the board of directors for The Cancer Crusaders Organization. “Our skin cancer programs are unique. This is innovative stuff, and it appears that the AAD agrees. That the AAD recognizes our programs are important to the community—that is really incredible.”

This announcement comes just 24-hours before The Cancer Crusaders Organization plans to introduce its “ONLY SKIN DEEP?“® Peer Educator’s Training & Certification Program via the Conversations with Cancer show. The Conversations with Cancer show, hosted by the Organization’s co-founder, Danielle White, airs on the Grapevine Talk Radio Network every Friday and traditionally features interviews with leading dermatologists discussing the latest developments in skin cancer prevention, sun safety education

, and melanoma research. For the next six weeks, the show will turn into an online classroom training young adults from across the globe to become peer educators on skin cancer and sun safety.

“The “ONLY SKIN DEEP?”® curriculum was originally created to be a college course offered through Utah Valley State College,” said Danielle White, co-founder of The Cancer Crusaders Organization and host of the Conversations with Cancer show. “Although we will still teach it as a college course, we realized that there are many people who wouldn’t be able to make it to the campus so we are going to utilize the Grapevine Talk Radio Network to bring this unique, innovative curriculum to anyone who is interested.” White adds, “When we launched the Conversations with Cancer show back in July 2005, we wanted to create a unique, interactive, innovative, and informational tool for disseminating information about skin cancer prevention education - particularly to our young adult population. And launching an internet/radio show seemed an ideal way to further carryout our mission. It is deeply humbling to know that the AAD finds this show meaningful and worthwhile. We are grateful to them and, of course, to Grapevine Radio.”

The Cancer Crusaders Organization received national recognition from the American Academy of Dermatology in 2005 when they were awarded a Gold Triangle Award for the introducing the new, national Skin Cancer Awareness ribbon symbol. The ribbon’s creator, Natalie Camille Johnson, first presented the AAD with the idea of a universally accepted symbol for the cause back in May 2003. “I have never seen a symbol that so effectively represents the cause,” says White. “Natalie’s original design effectively encapsulates the message that 90% of skin cancers are caused by over-expousre to UV rays, particularly UV rays from the sun, and therefore skin cancer is largely preventable. The ribbon espouses a sense of hope that we can, and will, conquer this disease." Since introducing the National Skin Cancer Awareness Symbol©, best friends White and Johnson have co-founded The Cancer Crusaders Organization which includes six other volunteer members—all in their 20s.

“I am so happy that [The Cancer Crusaders Organization] has received this well-deserved recognition for [their] efforts,” says Lisa Doty, senior public relations specialist at the AAD. Robbie Lawler, one of the founders of the Grapevine Talk Radio Network (aka GrapevinerRadio.com) agrees.

“All of their hard work has finally been paying off,” Lawler says. “This group deserves recognition for their dedication and their passion. And Danielle is going places.”

The Conversations with Cancer show began broadcasting on the Grapevine Radio Network July 22, 2005, and is the second most popular show on the network, with an average weekly listernship of 19-million worldwide. The show features leading experts from the field of dermatology, including skin cancer survivors. The show runs live every Friday @ 1:00 PM (MST) for 50 minutes on www.grapevineradio.com.
