Robin Speziale, a grade eleven student at Erindale Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario captured victory with a final portfolio value of $207,977.34, approximately a 108% return on investment. His win was largely attributed to investments in embattled biotech company Elan Corporation PLC (NYSE: ELN). After Elan stock suffered a crushing fall early on in the competition due to regulatory problems, Speziale purchased shares, which fell to as low as $3.00 from over $30.00. Anticipating a rebound, he held his position through to the end of the competition where Elan closed at $6.23 on May 6, 2005. Shares of Elan currently trade near $8.00. Speziale also serves as Branch Manager of Investors of Tomorrow at Erindale Secondary School.

On Monday, May 16, 2004, Patricia Lovett-Reid, Senior Vice President of TD Waterhouse and Gillian Manning, Global Markets Economist of TD Bank Financial Group will be traveling to Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario to address a group of approximately 200 students from grades 9 to 12 and Investors of Tomorrow members from secondary school branches around the Greater Toronto Area about the outlook on the stock market, careers in the financial sector, and the importance of financial literacy in youth. The keynote will be followed by an awards presentation recognizing the top three ranking Investors of Tomorrow participants with the highest final portfolio values in each competition session in the bi-annual InvestYoung Online Stock Market Competition.

“Investors of Tomorrow strives to bring a level of excitement to the often dry topics of financial literacy and investor education,” says Andrew Tai, chief executive of Investors of Tomorrow. “We believe financial literacy in youth is highly important, yet learning can be made fun. The enthusiasm we see in our participants and the tremendous growth of our program are proof of that.”
