Tour”. The U13 "Oakville Soccer Club" squad trained daily under the guidance of professional Italian coaches from the Italian Football Academy (IFA), played three (3) “friendly” matches against top level Italian youth sector teams of professional teams, and enjoyed guided cultural excursions. The Cross represented Canadian youth soccer very well…winning two matches and losing only one match (by only one goal to a team a year older).

“  Redolfi and he was very impressed with the team’s style of play and discipline while on tour in Italy.
EduKick Vice-President Joey Bilotta was very excited to send an Oakville Soccer Club team to Italy. “This is a top level youth squad and I felt this team was ready to compete with top level Italian club teams. I spoke with IFA Head Coach, Mr. Redolfi and he was very impressed with the team’s style of play and discipline while on tour in Italy.”

Not only did the players receive top coaching daily from Bruno Redolfi, Technical Director of the Italian Football Academy (IFA) Scuola Calcio and his staff, they also had an opportunity to experience the cultural traditions and historical treasures of Italy. The tour began with a private bus picking up the boys from the Leonardo Da Vinci Airport in Rome and transporting the players to Perugia where they lodged at the beautiful Hotel Faina. The players had their daily soccer training at the IFA “Scuola Calcio” professional training facility located in Perugia.

Also included in the custom “Team Tour” was a guided day tour of Florence and a Serie A professional soccer match between AC Fiorentina and AC Parma! The tour continued with day trips to Assisi to visit the famous St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, the Euro Chocolate Festival, and a ½ day tour of Rome (including visits to the Coliseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and St. Peter’s Basilica).

Their cultural activities were combined with five (5) complete training sessions and three (3) matches all in a ten day period. The first game against an older squad of boys from Pontevecchio PG proved to be the Cross’ toughest match, as they ended up losing a tough battle 1-0. Cross Head Coach Vince Mifsud was happy with the performance of the Oakville Cross players but felt the boys were a little nervous playing their first match overseas. The second game against AC Arezzo saw Cam Eisis and C.J. Telford net goals in a 2-1 Oakville Cross victory. AC Arezzo is a Serie B professional team…the Cross played against their youth sector U-14 squad (and won)! And in the third game Oakville Cross faced AC Lodigiani from Rome (a Serie C professional club). The Cross defeated the Lodigiani U-14 youth sector squad also…this time the score was 3-2; with goals by Jordan Kotsopoulos, C.J. Telford and Brandon Musselman.

"I think this was an experience of a lifetime for these boys” said Coach, Vince Mifsud, “This has helped the boys tremendously to elevate their level of thinking on the field.” The Cross “Team Tour” to Italy ended a very successful season for them in 2005 as they earned a birthplace in the OYSL (Ontario Youth Soccer League) for the 2006 season. Oakville Cross Assistant Head Coach, Peter Kotsopoulos (pictured above at right with IFA Technical Director, Bruno Redolfi), had this to say; "Coach Redolfi and the entire IFA staff were tremendous...the boys have definitely matured as players from this experience."

Congratulations to the Oakville Cross for quite a successful year!
