Cup sponsored by WSS-Warehouse Shoe Sale and Adidas at the Home Depot Center.
This Saturday, June 4th at 2pm, those 30 players will descend on the Home Depot Field to compete in the inaugural Scholastic Soccer Cup game. The senior players represent over 20 High Schools from City Section Soccer Champions South Gate HS to valley based Canoga Park HS and include 12 of the best senior soccer players as ranked by the LA Times.
The players include high

standouts like Sung-Hyun Kim (Los Angeles HS) who played for the Korean National team when he was 14. Other players include Seniors Joel Diengeau (Washington HS), Marco Pulido (South Gate HS) and Danny Caballero (Elizabeth Learning HS); all players who earned the distinction of being members of the LA Times All-City First Team.
Gaining entry into the SSC was not easy; players had to be nominated by their respective coaches, submit a written essay and copies of their transcripts to reflect a GPA of 2.5 or above.
For some players, the Scholastic Soccer Cup will be their final game as a student; for others like senior Kenny Toro (King Drew Magnet HS) with an impressive GPA of 4.13 it is not; he will attend Dartmouth College in the fall of 2005.
All SSC players will receive a free uniform, Galaxy tickets and will be hosted at a reception at 4pm in the Home Depot Concourse. Three individual awards will be given for Best Essay, Highest GPA and MVP of the game. These individuals will also be honored at the Galaxy game.
The SSC game is free to the public and with hundreds of fans expected to attend, we invite you to join us at 2pm for the SSC game and 4pm for the SSC reception!
