(PRWEB) January 30, 2006 -- Bill Gates says so and so does Thomas Friedman, author of the runaway best seller, The World is Flat. Many forward thinking educators have been saying so for decades, but no one has tackled the subject in a comprehensive way until now.

writer Edward Davis says "it is the central issue we face as a nation." His new book Lessons For Tomorrow, Bringing America’s Schools Back From The Brink (Orgone Press, 2006) explains why the design of schooling is obsolete and what the principles and features of a new design will be. If you haven’t thought about this issue, the implications are enormous:
Our democracy is becoming increasingly destabilized as we fail to educate for the reasons our founding fathers set forth as the basis for an authentic democracy. The new global economics says that you cannot effectively compete in the new “flat” world, especially if you are a prosperous nation of producers and consumers, unless you are producing smarter people. We used to do that. Now we are failing.
With what we now know about how the brain works, it is evident that traditional schooling is limiting rather than stimulating intellectual growth. Compared with what is clearly possible, we are producing stunted brains…and the evidence is overwhelming. We spend more money per pupil than any other Western nation, and overall receive the least for our money. An obsolete system cannot be fixed by throwing more $ at it!
Who wants to participate in this conversation? It is a crucial topic to bring to the public because of the stakes and because most of us believe the popular rhetoric…if we just raise the standards, make the classrooms smaller, spend more money and produce better teachers, things will get better.
This has all been done and to no avail. Find out what the real issues are and what will return us to leadership in producing smarter citizens, workers and communities.
