“Thanks to the Hot Topic Foundation, we will be able to help many public schools affected by this disaster reestablish their music programs,” said Felice Mancini, executive director of The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. “Playing music may be the very thing that can lighten the burden that this experience has placed on children living in areas affected by Katrina.”
The Hot Topic Foundation has worked with The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation in the past, helping the organization support music education in schools across the country.
“This effort is very much what the Hot Topic Foundation is all about,” said Amy Malone, of the Hot Topic Foundation. “The Foundation is committed to providing youth with the assistance needed for them to embrace and succeed in the arts. After learning about the devastation brought on by Katrina, we knew we had to help bring these programs back to life.”

The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation supports music education and its many benefits through the donation and repair of musical instruments to underserved schools, community music programs and individual students nationwide. The organization was inspired by the 1995 motion picture Mr. Holland’s Opus and was founded by Michael Kamen, who composed the music for that movie and countless others. In the last seven years, new and refurbished instruments with a value of approximately $5 million have been donated to more than 600 school and community music programs across the country.
