March 31, 2005 -- If you watched this week’s episode of “Desperate Housewives,” you can appreciate the need for help when it comes to fighting head lice.

Lice Solutions, a nonprofit head lice “awareness and control center” located in West Palm Beach, Fla., encourages their families to focus on communication and the need to work together. “We tell our parents, ‘It’s not just where you got head lice, but also who you gave it to while you had it.’ Ms. Shepherd explained. “When we can encourage families to quit looking for that “patient zero” child and focus on the real problem; we can effectively reduce the overall number of infestations seen in our area.”
Her organization, that treats hundreds of individuals a month, promotes the need to take the time to get it all out of the head; as well as the importance of alerting all possible sources of contact. “Doing it right the first time is the only way to ensure your child doesn’t get it again and again!” added Ms. Shepherd.
