Costa Rica Holiday - Tamarindo - Dead or Alive

(PRWEB) May 31, 2006 -- Costa Rica has seen over the past 5 year a huge spike in tourims throughout, however nowhere has the growth been so big and concerntrated as Tamarindo, however why?

The Town itself is was a small fishing village not nobody really knew existed until the film endless summer was filmed here. Then came the surf crew and set up shop with their basic hotels and bars. As word soon got around the US that Tamarindo was a great place to surf more and more people started to visit and enquire. Then more hotels were built as demand became too much and now you have what you have today!!

The town itself is a from the point of view of Cost Rican's a disappointment because you cannot speak Spanish in it. I mean you travel half the world and spend the previous week brushing up on your Spanish to not be able to speak the language

!!

However the hotels in the area are some of the best in Costa Rica. You have such hotels as Sueno del Mar, Villa Cala Luna, etc that offer a higher end luxury hotel. The old school

surf crowd have since moved on as hotels became more expensive and the waves crowded, but if you are looking for a great family location then look no further!!

Ther are 2 negatives to this spike in tourism 1) due to the increase in construction and the hotels and the number of people in the area there is a huge water shortage problem as during the dry season there is a lack of rain througout Costa Rica and with so many people visiting during this time there are sometimes day without water. Therefore people in the area need to become more eco-friendly within the hotels and their homes so that water usage decreases. This will be a long term problem in a country with minimal infastructure, however if Costa Rica wishes to become a more popular country it must relook at these infastructural problems. 2) The increase in construction has increased prices so much that local Costa Ricans are having to move away as they cannot afford to live in such an expensive area. In Tamarindo the local average wage would be around $400 where you cannot rent a property for less than $600 a month.

While Costa Rica is a beautiful country and Tourism is good for the Economy is it just widening the gap between rich and poor as things are becoming more difficult for the poor!!
