City Year Launches 100 Hours of Non-Stop Community Service in all Five Boroughs of NYC

City Year New York launches 100 Hours of Power, an unprecedented event in which its corps members (diverse 17-24 year-olds) will serve for 100 consecutive hours throughout all five boroughs of New York City. Service projects will include serving the homeless at dawn to painting inspirational murals at midnight.

New York (PRWEB) April 2, 2007 -- City Year and hundreds of volunteers will serve New York City for 100 consecutive hours of community service in all five boroughs in an unprecedented event called 100 Hours of Power. This week-long celebration of service is run entirely by City Year corps members, 17-24 year-olds who are dedicating a year of their lives to service.

Starting on April 2, 2007 at 10 a.m. and running through April 6, 2007 at 2 p.m., City Year corps members along with community and corporate volunteers will work around the clock to provide essential services to New York City's neediest communities. The service projects will include physical improvements, such as painting and landscaping, in addition to serving establishments such as soup kitchens, food banks and homeless shelters.

This event calls New Yorkers' attention to the needs that exist in our city 24 hours a day. This event also demonstrates the impact young people can have when they are driven by purpose and pride. City Year is currently looking for 17-24 year-olds to join its program in the fall: go to http://www.MakeADifferenceNYC.org for more information.

The week's highlights include a spirited opening assembly at Bronx Guild High School
