American Statistical Association to Provide Financial Assistance for Travel to International Statistical Institute Session in Portugal

Through a grant from the National Science Foundation, the American Statistical Association offers travel assistance to participants in the 56th International Statistical Institute (ISI) session in Lisboa, Portugal. The grants are available to individuals presenting papers or who have an official function at the ISI meeting. Newer statistical professionals who completed Ph.D. requirements in 1996 or later, women, and minorities are especially encouraged to apply. Application deadline is April 13, 2007.

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) April 2, 2007 -- The American Statistical Association (ASA), the nation's preeminent professional statistical society, is now accepting applications for grants that will cover partial transportation costs to the 56th International Statistical Institute (ISI) session in Lisboa, Portugal. The grants are available to individuals presenting papers or who have an official function at the ISI meeting. Newer statistical professionals who completed Ph.D. requirements in 1996 or later, women, and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

Grant recipients must be members of ISI or one of its sections, or an official representative of an invited organization. The ISI sections include: the International Association of Survey Statisticians, the International Association of Statistical Computing, the International Association of Official Statistics, the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability, and the International Association for Statistical Education

All applications must be submitted by April 13, 2007. The grant application is available on the ASA web site at http://www.amstat.org/research_grants/2007TravelGrantApplicationISI.doc or via email by contacting isitravel(at)amstat.org.

The ISI, one of the world's oldest operating scientific associations, has held sessions biennially since 1853. Participants include academics, government and private sector statisticians and related experts from various institutes.
