All Kinds of Minds Welcomes Two New Board Members

(PRWEB) October 27, 2005 -- All Kinds of Minds, a nonprofit institute for the understanding of differences in learning, welcomes prominent academicians Joel L. Fleishman and Arthur Levine to the organization’s Board of Trustees.

Mr. Fleishman joined the faculty of Duke University in 1971 as a professor of law and public policy, and was appointed the founding Director of the Institute of Policy Sciences and Public Affairs, a position he held until 1983, when he became Chairman of the Capital Campaign for the Arts & Sciences and Engineering which raised more than $200 million in endowments. In addition, he served in several senior administrative positions at Duke, including First Senior Vice President, until 1993, when he resigned all of those administrative positions to become President of the Atlantic Philanthropic Service Company, Inc. which was the US arm of Atlantic Philanthropies headquartered in New York City. Through his years with APS, Mr. Fleishman continued as part-time Professor of Law and Public Policy Studies and Director of the Sam and Ronnie Heyman Center for Ethics, Public Policy and the Professions at Duke University. He returned to full-time status in those positions in 2003.

In addition to his new Board position at All Kinds of Minds, Mr. Fleishman currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Urban Institute, as member of the Board of Trustees of the John and Mary R. Markle Foundation, and as trustee of the following organizations: the Jewish Theological Seminary of America; the Artscroll Mesorah Heritage Foundation; the American Hebrew Academy; and the Partnership for Public Service. He is also Chairman of the Visiting Committee of the Kennedy School

 of Government at Harvard University; as well as a member of the Governing Council of the Rockefeller Archive Center. He was elected in 2003 to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. In addition to his other activities, Mr. Fleishman is a member of the Boards of Directors of Boston Scientific Corporation, the Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, and the James River Insurance Group.

A Guggenheim Fellowship winner, Mr. Levine has been recognized with a host of education awards and honorary degrees. He has served as a consultant to more than 250 colleges and universities. Mr. Levine was also President of Bradford College (1982-1989) and Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Foundation and Carnegie Council for Policy Studies in Higher Education (1975-1982). Mr. Levine is currently working on a five-year study of the nation’s schools of education.

Mr. Levine is the author of dozens of articles and reviews, and has written more than nine books on college education, the most recent being When Hope and Fear Collide: A Portrait of Today’s College Student (with Jeanette S. Cureton). Mr. Levine’s numerous opinion editorials have appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, The Chronicle of Higher Education and Education Week.
